Role
Payroll Assistant
Your opportunity

We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented and organised Payroll Assistant to join our Payroll team. This role is open for those who are early in their career and have some background understanding or are looking to begin their career in payroll.

As a key function within our business, this role offers payroll services to a wide range of BKL’s clients. This will enable you to gain an understanding of an extensive variety of companies and sectors to reinforce and develop your expertise.

How you’ll make a difference

With the support and guidance of more experienced members of the team, you’ll deliver the full scope of our payroll services to our clients. This will be through the payroll tasks you complete as well as the relationships you develop and the advice you provide. By appreciating the bigger picture, you will build the ability to understand and advise on the implications of your work, and on the outcomes that clients are looking to achieve.

By developing and in-depth knowledge of clients’ businesses, you will also be able to identify areas in their operations that could benefit from the support of other advisory services within BKL including accounts, audit, tax and HR.

Having received private equity investment from CBPE in April 2023, we are on a high-growth path. This means that the opportunities available to you will grow and develop in line with the team and the wider business.

You will:

  • Assist with a full range of payroll duties including annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly payrolls:
    • Processing of starters and leavers
    • Preparing payroll to be paid by BACS
    • Issuing payslips and payroll summaries
    • Opening and closing PAYE schemes
  • Generating RTI submissions to HMRC
  • Assisting with end-of-year processing and reconciliations including the issuing of P60s
  • Building your own client portfolio over a period of time based on the knowledge you gain working with the team. You will be expected to provide advice and support to client on their payroll queries and requirements.
You’ll be ideal for this role if you...
  • Are studying for your CIPP qualification or are looking to begin your studies
  • Have excellent organisational skills and can manage multiple projects at once
  • Can demonstrate problem solving skills and apply your wider knowledge to find solutions
  • Are keen to take an active role in your own development
  • Are confident in developing and maintaining relationships with your clients

We know you have a lot to offer, which is why we want to give you the freedom to thrive no matter who you are or what your background is. You will have every opportunity to use your creativity in how you approach your work and the support to innovate.

Inclusion, diversity, and talent development are a fundamental aspect of who we are, and we welcome applications from candidates who share and champion these values. You will play an integral part in helping to make BKL a great place to work with a sense of belonging for everyone.

High challenge, high support

If you enjoy problem solving and a fast-changing environment, you will thrive in this role.

As in all BKL roles, you will be able to take a flexible approach: balancing independent work with teamwork, and remote working with time in the office with colleagues.
